Real strikethrough or Unicode?

The line is a combining mark added after each letter, so its length and thickness depend on the app and font. Check the result before you post, and keep key details, such as dates and prices, in plain text as well.

Strikethrough Text: common questions
How do I make strikethrough text?
Type your text, pick a strikethrough style and press Copy, then paste it where you want it. Each letter gets a combining line mark, so the pasted text looks crossed out in apps that have no strikethrough button.
Is crossed out text the same as strikethrough?
Yes. Crossed out text, strikethrough text and a cross out font all mean a line through the middle of the letters. This page also has slashed and wavy versions, which cross the letters out with a different mark.
Is there an underline text generator?
Yes. Open the Underline choice above to copy underlined, double underlined, short underlined and wavy underlined text. They work like strikethrough, with a combining mark under every letter, so you can use them in apps that have no underline button.
Why does my crossed out text look uneven?
The line comes from a combining mark that each app and font draws in its own way. Some apps leave gaps between letters, draw the line at a different height or clip it. Try the short or slashed versions, and check the result in the app before you post.
Can I use strikethrough text in a username?
On most platforms, no. Usernames accept only plain letters, numbers and a few symbols, so letters with marks are rejected. Use crossed out text in display names, bios, captions and posts instead.
Can people still search or read crossed out text?
Often not well. A screen reader may read the marks or skip them, and search may not match the plain word. Keep important details in plain text and use the crossed out version as decoration.
